Unlock Your True Self: 23+ Questions For Self Discovery
nancy drew’s got nothing on you!
Deeply knowing yourself is the foundational first step for true personal growth. Knowing yourself helps to foster self-awareness, which is crucial for knowing how you operate and implementing the most effective strategies. Knowing yourself is what allows you to work towards your goals and dreams in integrity with who you are and what you truly want. If you happened to look around my website a little bit, you might've noticed a theme and desire that I have for my readers. That desire is to encourage readers to find creative solutions to help them over their personal obstacles. It’s something I’ve become very passionate about and truly believe is possible for anyone who has struggled with progress, growth, or success. Any area where standard or traditional methods have failed you, creative and personalized solutions can help you succeed.
My life has been a testament to this new perspective, just within the last year! With this new philosophy, I was finally able to work towards my lifelong dreams and have found effective strategies that helped me accomplish BIG goals. Goals like: going to the gym consistently, eating healthy, waking up early every day, building this blog, and so much more! Trust me, if you knew me and saw how I lived for the last decade you would understand how impactful this truly is!
But none of that success would’ve been possible if I didn't start by being honest with myself. Being honest and taking inventory of what motives, beliefs, desires, skills and shortcomings that make up who I am and how I operate in the world. I know this kind of inner work can be daunting or scary, so I’d like to offer a different perspective you can use. I want to encourage you to look at this through the lens of play. No judgement, no shame, no beating yourself up, no wishing you were this and wishing you weren’t that. We are simply holding space to move through these questions with honesty, curiosity, and openness to what the heart wants to reveal—nothing more. This is where we get to play detective. Full permission to pretend we are Emma Roberts in Nancy Drew, just like when we were kids. :*)
I find going through these questions to be the most effective when you are alone, in a private space, without a time frame. Simply being with self and looking inward to listen to the voices and nudges that are coming from your mind, body, heart and the Spirit. They are always speaking, we simply have to tune in.
I like having a journal with me to write down my answers and help me through the questions that are difficult for me to hear a specific answer on. If you encounter this, I suggest brain dumping all your thoughts on paper. Don’t think —just write the first thing that comes to your hand or mind. Oftentimes, I find that my answer is the first thing that I wrote down. Or after writing down everything in my mind onto paper, something will resonate with me more than the other things on the page when I read it over again.
Remember: Simply play detective with honesty and curiosity :)
