How To Use Your Phone For Progress

Technology can often be our greatest foe—causing unlimited distractions and keeping us from accomplishing our goals. But with the right apps, technology can be an incredible asset to building the life of our dreams. I know this was true for me. I used to spend countless hours on my phone, almost like I was in a trance, just to finally snap out of it and realize that my day was gone. These days turned into months and years of not working toward the life I dreamed of having. My phone was starting to become the thing that was hurting me, not helping me. I knew something needed to change. I needed to flip the script on what my phone was going to be in my life. I wanted it to be an ally and not the enemy. That’s when I went on a search for the applications that would do just that. After years of trying apps, I finally found the top 6 that have helped me find progress and victory in my goals. These apps have definitely played a massive role in my personal growth and success by helping to track my progress, stay organized, and sending helpful reminders to keep my mind focused on my goals. This is possible for anyone who wants to start using their phone for progress instead of a digital distraction - including you my friend!

If you are ready to finally find success with reaching your goals and working towards your dreams, these apps are for you!

The 6 Best Apps For Productivity:

1. Screenzen

This approach has been revolutionary in helping me develop a healthier relationship with my time-consuming apps. This has allowed me to detox from my phone, as well as have firm boundaries with the apps I still do have! It is completely customizable in regard to what apps you limit, for how long, and how many times you can open those apps in a day. They've got some really cool features like the ‘delayed open’ function, which you can also customize. You can have it be a quote, a crossword puzzle, or a to do list while you're waiting for your app to open. When I mindlessly click an app out of habit, that 20-second loading time gives me a moment to realize I don't actually care to know what's happening on it. This pause lets me choose to close the app before getting sucked into scrolling—simply because I want to. It's been so freeing to know that when I go on a specific app, I don’t have to worry about watching the time or using my willpower to end the doomscrolling. Screenzen kicks me off the app when my customized time limit is reached, with a helpful one-minute warning beforehand. This app is currently free, which makes this technology so sweet!

Available for both Apple and Android users. App picture is at the bottom of this page:)

2. Habit

This app is great for visually tracking your daily habits. I don’t know about you, but for me, if it's out of sight it's out of mind. Because of this, being able to get notifications as reminders to do certain habits is very helpful. Not to mention being able to set it as a widget on your home screen is also a huge plus! With that feature, you can see your habits and progress in real time —every time you open your phone. What I really like about this app is you can choose between building a habit or breaking a habit. It is also super customizable in regard to which days/times of the week you want to complete your habit, adjusting icons and colors, as well as the presentation of the progress tracker.

Unfortunately this app is only available on the App Store for Apple users.

3. Structured

Think of this app as a more detailed daily calendar. It utilizes time blocking so you can plan out your day by hour and minute. This can give you a great idea of how much time you have in a day to complete tasks, as well as give you reminders when those certain tasks need to be done. I prefer this over Apple's “Reminders” app because I like the layout better. It’s easier for me to play with the functions and receive alerts at specific times I’ve set. Being able to see my day in a time block format, with the flexibility to move items around, has been super helpful for me! This app is paid, but you only have to pay one time and you have it for life!

This app is available for Apple and Android users.

4 + 5. Notes & Voice Memos

I combined these apps into one category because they are so simple and come with every smartphone. These apps are incredibly helpful because I can never write as quickly as my brain thinks. I have used both of these to house all of my random thoughts and ideas over the years. Some of these were dreams I mentioned years ago that have become reality today, simply because I rediscovered them while reviewing my recordings. I utilize both apps to flesh out ideas quickly, or just say what's on my mind and get thoughts out of my head. This can be super helpful for me when I get into overwhelming episodes or I am at a roadblock on how I should proceed forward. Talking it out into my phone really helps me reset and most of the time, helps me find clarity on how I hold move forward through an issue. If you don’t use your notes or voice memos, this is your sign to start!

6. Notion

Last but definitely not least is my new favorite productivity beast, Notion. This is the home for everything important to me, available in an easily accessible digital space. It is super versatile in its capacity and my favorite part - IT’S FREE. It can be a little overwhelming at first so I recommend watching a tutorial, but once you understand how it works, you’ll be setting up your Notion like a pro in no time. I use this for so many things but namely as a daily digital planner, goal and dream setting planner, blog planner, project manager, grocery list, budget tracker and even as a recipe book. What I love about Notion is that the possibilities are truly endless for creating a streamlined productivity system online. Whether it's a schoolwork manager, daily journal or a digital life planner online, Notion can be curated to accomplish whatever you need on a digital platform! With how it can be uniquely customized, you can really dress up your Notion pages and create something so aesthetic and so helpful. It’s truly a win-win scenario.
